Dairy Bar Tour

On Tuesday, January 28, we walked to the UConn Dairy Bar for a tour. The Dairy Bar is famous for making its own ice cream and is a very popular place for UConn students to go on hot days. It wasn’t hot on Tuesday but we enjoyed eating ice cream anyway.

When we arrived at the Dairy Bar, we met our tour guide in the lobby and she escorted us to the ice cream production room. She explained the process of making ice cream and showed us the machines that are used. She also explained that UConn has cows that produce the milk used to make the ice cream sold at the Dairy Bar. Some of us already knew this because last semester we toured the UConn Dairy farm. We learned that UConn has begun making and selling cheese and yogurt, too.

They were not making ice cream at the time of our visit, which was unfortunate. They had finished making ice cream for the day and were cleaning the facility. It was very loud in the production room and difficult to hear our guide. When we finished the tour, we went back into the lobby and enjoyed some peace and quiet, and some delicious ice cream.
